Abstract

I have always been a crafty girl, saving miscellaneous craft supplies I could get my hands on. One of these miscellaneous items was the dried-up acrylic paint scraps from my paint pallets. I started saving these when I started college, when I got more into painting. Over these past 3 and a half years, I have accumulated many of these and wanted to find a way to use them. I stored them on a canvas so they wouldn’t stick together, and I enjoyed how they looked. This was a way to be sustainable and find a use for paint that would otherwise end up in the garbage. I even had enough to create this sequel piece, $crap$ II. This piece also showed me how much waste can come from a singular artist. While feeling bad about all the wasted money that was dried up in front of me, I was able to recall which paintings some of these scraps were from. While this piece can make a sustainable announcement, it can also allow me to reflect on my painting history and visually see what I have been able to create these past 3 and a half years with my own two hands. $crap$ II is my waste of paint, but also my painting history. This painting is an accumulation of my craft, both the good and the bad parts of it.
