Madison Trujillo despised the thought of reading and writing due to bad past experiences with teachers. Yet, when a Professor of hers assigned F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby to be read a myriad of times, Maddy found a passion while her classmates found animosity. Fitzgerald inspired her current goal of teaching literature and composition at a community college. She builds her academic repertoire by researching for Dr. Irene Clark’s Literacy Narratives. When she is not completing coursework, she enjoys baking from her sourdough starter named Doughmingo, reading psychological thrillers, listening to true crime podcasts, watching reruns of The Office, and playing with her two cats, Luna and Nova. She is delighted to be on the Northridge Review team and to give fellow Matadors a place for their stories to be read, heard, celebrated, and commemorated.
Caroline Urbina is a graduate student earning her Master of Arts in English with an emphasis on Creative Writing. She is a poet and an artist captivated by fantasy & realism stories and free verse poems. She worked as the Lead Social Media Editor for the Northridge Review Fall 2024 and is currently working as the Marketing Manager for the Scarlet Review. Being published by literary magazines including Scarlet Review and Cool Beans Lit, she is cultivating her authorship as a Latina woman in the literary space. While her recent work has reflected on confessional poetry, she is in the process of experimenting with black-out poetry as a mode of political and social justice.
Ismael Dones is a creative writing graduate student. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, he depicts his culture within magic realism and science fiction narratives. His work has appeared in The STDIC Journal, Valley by Valley, and the previous issues of the Northridge Review. Ismael is also a consultant at UCLA’s Radical Librarianship Institute and editor-in-chief of the Scarlet Review. When he’s not writing, he makes lousy jokes amongst family and friends, enjoys board games, streams Friends, pops in Back to the Future and Doctor Who into his trusty Blu-ray player, and pesters his cats, Karma and Simba.
Jazmine Agregado is a fiction writer and editor serving as the Assistant Managing Editor for the Northridge Review and Copydesk Intern for the Los Angeles Review of Books. Raised in the San Francisco Bay area, her works of fiction explore the effects of political, religious, and cultural issues on racially diverse and LGBTQ+ perspectives. Coming from a family of educators, challenging epistemologies is integral to her writership and editorship’s advocacy of marginalized voices. She owes her love of the science-fiction, fantasy, and gothic genres to Suzanne Collins and Edgar Allan Poe. Being African American and Filipino, Jazmine’s authorial and editorial endeavors strive to foster the literary world’s progressive expansion towards inclusivity and the sharing of all stories. She will receive her B.A. in English Creative Writing in the Spring 2025 semester, graduating with the ambition to pursue a career as an editor.
Patrick Smith is a grad student who is constantly evolving and always looking for new ways to grow. His short story “Sunday Morning” was previously accepted into Northridge Review. His other work ranges from fantasy and autofiction to horror and surrealism – all of which he heavily draws from real life experience to feed his characters and themes. He enjoys blending and bleeding the realities of fiction with real life to uncover truths about the human experience. Some recurring motifs in his work include his cats Karma and Simba, his love for music like Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks, though he’ll take any opportunity to mention dinosaurs. He works with Sigma Tau Delta, an International English Honors Society, in creating spaces to help strengthen the writing community. Within that community, he is the Prose Managing Editor for Scarlet Review.

Georgia Kate Ryan is a poet and writer based in Los Angeles. They pull inspiration for their work from their upbringing in the Catholic church and their time as a queer closeted youth (despite coming to reject the concept of the closet and “coming out”). From the retelling and reframing of Catholic narratives to the exploration of gender and sexuality, they explore identity and community through focusing their subjects on the strange, shameful, and hidden. Their first step into publishing was through their high school newspaper and publishing their own zines containing their art, poetry, prose, and research. They love the physical act of collage and binding, but their love of physical art also extends to their work across the fiber arts with sewing, crochet, knitting, and embroidery.

They’re currently writing two graphic novels alongside their older sister, Mina, a local artist.
