About the Journal

The HHS Interprofessional Journal is a peer-reviewed, university-based scholarly publication housed within the Sacramento State College of Health & Human Services. The journal advances interprofessional knowledge across health, education, and human services through original research, practice-based scholarship, policy analysis, and educational innovation addressing complex individual, family, and community needs.

The journal welcomes submissions that demonstrate scholarly rigor, ethical integrity, and relevance to interprofessional practice, education, and policy. All manuscripts are subject to editorial screening and double-blind peer review. Submission of a manuscript does not guarantee publication.

Scope and Focus

The journal publishes work that explores, evaluates, or advances interprofessional approaches across disciplines within health, education, and human services. Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research methodologies are encouraged, provided they are methodologically sound, ethically conducted, and clearly situated within an interprofessional framework.

Submissions may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Interprofessional practice and service delivery
  • Team-based care and collaborative models
  • Community-engaged and participatory scholarship
  • Health, education, and social policy
  • Interprofessional education and workforce development
  • Equity, access, and culturally responsive practices
  • Program development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Applied and translational research with implications for practice

Both empirical and conceptual contributions are considered, provided they clearly articulate significance, rigor, and implications for interprofessional collaboration and impact.

Publication Frequency

The journal is published biannually, with two issues released each calendar year, typically in the Fall and Spring Semesters. The journal is committed to maintaining a consistent publication schedule to support timely dissemination of scholarly work.

Types of Submissions

The journal considers the following manuscript types:

  • Original research articles
  • Practice-based or applied scholarship
  • Policy analyses and reviews
  • Educational innovations and program descriptions
  • Community-engaged research and partnerships
  • Systematic or narrative reviews
  • Brief reports or commentary (as designated by the editorial board)

Submission categories may be expanded as the journal evolves.

Intended Audience

The journal’s intended audience includes scholars, practitioners, educators, administrators, students, and policymakers across health, education, and human services disciplines who are engaged in interprofessional work.

Editorial Board

The journal is overseen by an Editorial Board composed of scholars and professionals representing multiple disciplines within health, education, and human services. Editorial Board members are selected based on scholarly credentials, professional experience, and commitment to interprofessional collaboration.

The Editorial Board provides guidance on journal policy, scope, peer review, and scholarly standards. Additionally, the Board supports the peer review process; and upholds standards of scholarly quality, ethical integrity, and editorial independence. A current list of board members and affiliations is maintained on the journal website.

Peer Review Process

All submissions undergo initial editorial screening followed by double-blind peer review. Editorial decisions are based on scholarly merit, methodological rigor, ethical integrity, relevance to scope, and contribution to interprofessional knowledge. Decisions may include acceptance, revision, or rejection.

Reviewer Guidelines

Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and confidential evaluations. Reviews should address:

  • Alignment with the journal’s interprofessional mission
  • Contribution to scholarship, practice, policy, or education
  • Methodological appropriateness and rigor
  • Ethical oversight and transparency
  • Clarity of writing, organization, and presentation

Reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest and maintain confidentiality throughout the review process.
