Abstract

In Tyson et al You Have to Control It However You Can”: Type 2 Diabetes Management in a Hispanic Farmworker Community in Rural Florida, they argue that political and economic factors affect rural Hispanic farmworkers in Florida who use self-managed health care practices. These practices are primarily more fitness, herbal remedies, controlling their emotions, eating healthier and taking prescriptions. The local clinic in Florida in West-Central Florida noted that due to the diabetes management in poor socioeconomic standards the Hispanic community has poor glycemic control and those few who are able to get the donated insulin, later, resort to other oral medications. However, the ability to not afford healthcare is just one of the barriers that the rural Hispanic farmworkers in Florida face.
