Abstract

Photovoice seeks to change policy and enhance lives by creating dialogue about personal and communal strengths through introspection and reflection of photographs. Similarly, photo journaling provides opportu-nities for participants to express themselves and become self-aware through reflection of visual imagery. Photo journaling may also be used as a qualitative means for physical educators to authentically assess social emotional learning (SEL) within the classroom and provide opportunities for students to build interpersonal and intrapersonal relationship skills (IIRS) that can be applied to all aspects of their life. The objective of this paper is to provide physical educators with an outline to the A.R.T. (authentic, relevant, and transformation-al) assessment of social and emotional health within the classroom through the use of photo journaling.
