Abstract: This paper aims to understand the relationship between public opinion, law enforcement reactions, and administrative and state repression from 1960 to 2024, focusing on the Vietnam War and Palestine student protests. The history of protests, public opinion and repression of each movement is covered. Content analysis and archival data are analyzed in order to better understand the public’s reaction to the pro-Palestine protests and its relationship to protest coverage. A survey is proposed in order to expand the data on this topic and deepen the analysis of this relationship. The geological patterns of dissent and repression are analyzed, along with theories of repression and criticality.
