Abstract

This article aims to investigate the different manifestations of the theme of motherhood in the poetry of Concha Méndez. The analysis of her poetry collections Niño y sombras (1936) and Poemas. Sombras y sueños (1944) will reveal the plurality of meanings and images that the poet deploys to address issues such as the death of the child at birth or the hope offered by the birth of her second daughter. In addition, we will be able to see how the theme of motherhood is not limited to the particular experience, but is a way to reflect on female identity or poetic creation.
